PACIFIC LIFE OPEN ADDS FOUR KEY PARTNERS
December 19 2003--The return of former title sponsor Newsweek highlights the addition of four key partners to the Pacific Life Open fold for 2004, it was announced today by Charlie Pasarell, Chairman of the event. The Pacific Life Open, considered the Grand Slam of the West, will be held March 8-21, 2004, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
In addition to Newsweek, the tournament welcomes new sponsors Steve Furgal's International Tennis Tours, Fine Living Network and Tennis Warehouse. Pacific Life recently announced the extension of its title sponsorship of the event through 2006.
Newsweek, which previously served as title sponsor in Indian Wells for 12 years -- when the tournament was known as the Newsweek Champions Cup -- and presenting sponsor for two others, signed a three-year partnership deal.
"We are happy to welcome our old friends from Newsweek back into the 'tennis family,' " said Charlie Pasarell, Pacific Life Open tournament director. "Newsweek has been such an important part of the history of tennis here in the desert, and we are excited that the tradition will continue."
Also signing a three-year agreement is Steve Furgal's International Tennis Tours. The deal comes following a long history of success in selling tennis travel packages to the tournament. Inking one-year deals are Tennis Warehouse, a tennis retailer, which will have a "tech center" on site and will sell all hard goods during the event, and Fine Living Network, a new cable and satellite television network, which will receive brand exposure with a logo above the serve speed scoreboard on Stadium Court.
"Each of the new sponsors brings something unique to the table," added Pasarell. "They will enhance the quality of the experience for the fans, and in turn I believe they will be getting an exceptional value with exposure to our outstanding, highly desirable audience."
The Pacific Life Open and Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami are the only two events in professional tennis outside of the four Grand Slams to host a two-week, combined-event format. Last year's exciting event culminated with championships by off-court couple Lleyton Hewitt of Australia and Kim Clijsters of Belgium, who each held the No. 1 ranking during the 2003 season on their respective tours. The 16,100-seat, state-of-the-art Indian Wells Tennis Garden stadium is the second largest in the world, located in the lush oasis of the Southern California desert. The tournament caters to its fans by providing excellent sight lines of the court from every seat location, beautifully landscaped grounds and a variety of entertainment options, including live music, shopping, food, and other amenities.
